Question
I had a virus on my computer and took it to a pro to clean it up. Even after taking off the virus it is still so slow. I have dial up and it takes sometimes a half hour to load a page. I have scanned and found nothing and have defragmented. Still as slow as ever. Can you guide me as to what to do next?? Help!!

Answer
Hey Amanda,
I am sorry to hear about your computer troubles. However, I do have a few things you can do that could help restore some speed. First, if you can, free up some hard drive space. Check out this guide for freeing up disk space for some tips. Next, check your computer for any spyware. Here is a guide to help with spyware removal. I would then clean up your registry. Check out this guide for how to clean up your registry. I would then defragment again. If your computer is still slow after these steps, you can check out a few of our other advanced tips such as disabling windows indexing, optimizing startup programs, and disabling unnecessary services. Also, if your hardware is starting to get dated, you may want to look at a simple memory upgrade. A memory upgrade is the best bang for the buck when it comes to speeding up an older computer.
