How To Edit a PDF File

It is easy to edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files but it is not as easy to edit PDF files. There are different ways to edit a PDF file. You can edit a PDF file using online tools, a free PDF editor, or with commercial software. Not only is it possible to edit the text in a PDF file, you can also merge two separate PDF files together, edit images and colors, and change the order in which the pages of a PDF file are arranged. Let's look at the different ways you can edit a PDF file in more detail.

Commercial PDF Editor

Adobe Acrobat is one of the most common commercially available software packages for editing PDF files. There are other good ones too. Nevertheless, I have found Adobe Acrobat to be extremely useful. Commercial PDF editors have several features to let you edit a PDF file very easily.

You can also add useful and helpful plug-ins to your Acrobat Professional. Some useful plug-ins include pdfToolbox and PitStop Professional.

Free PDF Editor

There are many free PDF editors available. The primary problem with the free editors is that they restrict what you can do. The idea is to press you to buy a paid version. For example, some free PDF editors have restrictions on the file size. Others prevent you from printing.

Internet-based PDF editors

Many websites make it easy for you to edit your PDF files. All you have to do is upload the file to their server, and then the online editing software allows you to edit the PDF file from your browser. The disadvantage with this is that not everyone will feel safe uploading their intellectual property or a confidential piece of information onto a server that they know very little about.

Editing Password Protected PDF Files

PDF files can be password protected to prevent anybody from editing it. To edit a password protected PDF file, you can use JKwebtalk's free PDF unlocker, PDFkey pro, or the ColorSync utility.

Converting a PDF to black and white

You can convert your color PDF file to black and white very easily. You need the latest version of Adobe Acrobat to do this. In Acrobat, select Advanced -> print production -> convert colors -> select convert colors to output intent -> search to find the greyscale you want -> click on Ok.

All PDF files are editable. There are many ways to edit a PDF file. You can decide to use a web-based tool, a freeware, or commercial software like Adobe Acrobat. The solution you choose will depend on your needs.
