Explorer process

Windows Explorer

What is it
The explorer.exe file is an executable file for Windows Explorer. In the Microsoft Windows operating system, the explorer.exe file runs and has a graphical user interface that you can see when you are opening hard drives or files. Sometimes, the graphical user interface of the explorer.exe file is referred to as Windows GUI shell or Explorer.

Explorer.exe can be a trojan or virus that try to disguise itself as explorer.exe. If you find this file in the system, system32, or root (C:), it is most likely a trojan and should be removed. The real explorer.exe is located in the root Windows folder.

Recommendation
This is a critical process, do not remove or disable it.
