Agent process
What is it
Many different devices/applications will install a file called agent.exe. Please note that this is a process name that some viruses will use since it is so common. Here are a few of the most common:
The Forte Newsgroup Reader installs an agent.exe process. This process is used by Forte as part of that application. For that reason it should not be stopped.
Acronis Disk Management is an application that blocks internet viruses and other malware. Its installation of agent.exe protects the host computer (your computer) from these threats. This process should not be disabled because it is essential to the operation of this application and the security of your system.
On Dell computers agent.exe is used by the system administrator to perform system tasks related to process management and other system administration. This process is not essential. We don't recommened stopping unless you are certain it is causing problems.
InstallShield Update Service Agent is used to connect to the Internet to check for software updates for the following software applications: Roxio, DragonNaturally Speaking, Corel Draw, and Articulate. It is non-critical, but you should not disable if you don't think it is causing problems.
This name is often used by Viruses and Trojans. If you have agent.exe running and you don't think you have any of the above programs, you will want to run virus and spyware scans.
